The Hand Arts & Edutainment presents Sankofa, a fun-filled family event to celebrate Black History Month with music, performances, African drumming, and dance, face painting, drawing, crafts and activities, storytelling and film screening all inspired by African Diasporic traditions. Local Artists will teach painting and display art, Nubian Messengers will perform songs and will give music lessons with African Instruments and will guide children through a relaxed African drumming lesson and performance that welcomes the participation from both, children and adults. Family-centered healthy cooking and wellness workshops will be offered throughout the day. This event will be a kickoff to our Boys Rites of Passage & Mentorship program, an African centered initiative for Young Men ages 8-12 here in the South Orange Maplewood community. Families will be offered the opportunity to learn more and enroll their boys in this life-changing program. In addition to these activities, we will also present various artists and artisans to vend and showcase their artwork.
