The 1978 Maplewood Arts Center
As part of our ongoing efforts to activate The 1978 Maplewood Arts Center as a vibrant hub for creativity, culture, and connection, the Maplewood Division of Arts & Culture invites Maplewood-based artists, artist collectives, and small community organizations, to help shape how this space is used and envision how it could be used.
This RFP is an open invitation to imagine, propose, and co-create programming that supports local artists and brings the Maplewood community together. Whether you have a fully formed concept or an idea you’ve been wanting to explore, we want to hear from you!
What We’re Looking For
We are seeking proposals for exhibitions, events, workshops, gatherings, and recurring sessions that reflect community voices and interests of Maplewood residents.

Individual artists
Artist collectives
Cultural practitioners
Small community organizations
Teaching artists and facilitators
First-time applicants and emerging voices are strongly encouraged
The 1978 Maplewood Arts Center is a community-focused space designed to connect artists and residents. We are especially interested in proposals that:
Encourage participation, dialogue, or collaboration
Highlight local stories and experiences
Foster inclusivity, accessibility, and a sense of belonging
(Respond to the interests, needs, and curiosity of the Maplewood community)
Submission Details
How to Submit
Interested applicants are invited to fill out the RFP Google Form with a brief proposal that includes:
A short description of your idea or program
Intended audience and approximate number of participants/attendees
Preferred dates or time frame (if applicable)
Whether the proposal is a one-time event, exhibition, or recurring programAny technical, space, or accessibility needs
(Proposals do not need to be fully finalized—conceptual ideas are welcome.)
Timeline
Call Opens: Tuesday, January 20th, 2026
Submission Deadline: Saturday, February 28th, 2026
Programming Period: April 2026 - April 2027
Support Provided
Selected proposals may receive support from the Maplewood Division of Arts & Culture, which may include: use of The 1978 Maplewood Arts Center space, basic installation and event support, promotion through Maplewood Arts & Culture channels, staff coordination and planning assistance.
Stipends & Fees
A limited number of artist and facilitator stipends are available and will vary based on: Project scale and duration, number of sessions or events and available funding. Applicants are encouraged to include an estimated budget or fee request. We are committed to supporting Maplewood artists and community partners whenever possible.
