The 2026 Black History Month theme, “A Century of Black History Commemorations”, chosen by the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Black History Month. This theme focuses on the impact and meaning of the observances of Black history and their role in transforming the status of Black people. It marks 100 years of celebrating Black history and the role these commemorations have played in American culture. The theme encourages an exploration of how Black history and life celebrations have helped shape and transform the modern world.
