Maplewood Memorial Library Presents Artwork From Stephanie Penn

Free Event

Stephanie Penn is a Black visual artist inspired by ancestor connection, generational stories and imagery. She has lately been considering storytelling that includes the real and fantastical, exploring the push and pull of line, brushstroke, and color to tell those stories. Her work incorporates drawing, collage, watercolor, acrylic, and other found media. Stephanie works in layers, adding and subtracting, tracing and digging and scraping at something just out of reach. The search is in both the image and the image making.

Stephanie’s work has been included most recently at the Pierro Gallery in the Baird, South Orange for the Black Art Unveiled exhibition, in group showings at The Painting Center, NYC, the 1978 Gallery and in various windows for Windows for Women and at SOPAC in the previous year’s SOMA Studio Tour show.
