Call for ARTISTS: The 1978 Collection
We are excited to announce The 1978 Collection co-curated by Leslie Goldman (Wild Cherry Art), Maria Savidis-Markatos in partnership with the Township of Maplewood Division of Arts & Culture.
Jeremy Moss, Curator of the Heidi Gallery in Livingston and the Iris Gallery at SOPAC will be our juror.
For two days and two hours, the 1978 Maplewood Arts Center will be transformed into a vibrant local arts market boutique featuring thoughtfully selected work by local artists. The event is inspired by the quality and design you might find in a museum store—accessible, creative, and perfect for collectors and gift-givers alike.
Key Dates
● Submission deadline - Thursday, October 15th
● Selected artists invited to participate - Wednesday, November 4th
● Artist Drop-off / Setup and Installation:Tuesday, December 1st from 10am - 3pm, 5- 8pm AND Wednesday, Dec 2nd from 4pm-7pm
* note artists with table displays for Sunday only can bring work at 8:00 am on Sunday
● Pre-Opening Sale: Thursday, December 3 (6pm to 8pm)
● Open Hours: Saturday, December 5 & Sunday, December 6 (11am to 5pm)
Who Should Apply?
We’re inviting artists whose work reflects a curated, high-quality aesthetic. Accepted mediums: painting, prints, photography, collage, mixed media, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, fiber arts.
● Suggested price point: under $1,500
● Artists must provide their own point-of-sale system (Venmo, Zelle, Square, etc.)
● NJ based artists based in Maplewood, South Orange, Millburn, Springfield, Summit, Union, Elizabeth, Irvington, West Orange, Orange, East Orange, Newark, Bloomfield, Livingston, and other surrounding towns.
Display options:
Table space
$85 for 6ft table - Thursday and Saturday
$70 for 6ft table - Sunday only
$135 for 6ft table - Thursday evening, Saturday and Sunday
If you are accepted we can not promise both days.
Wall space
We will try to mark off 9 ft sections but some walls are smaller so the wall display area will be approximately 9ft wide by 9ft tall. The gallery is small so tables will NOT be allowed if you have wall space. Print racks are permissible - Work must be hung on Tuesday or Wednesday and there must be work on the wall for the duration of the sale $135 - Thursday evening, Saturday and Sunday (make sure you have adequate inventory to replace work once it sells)

Deadline: Thursday, October 15, 2026
Please include:
● Up to 10 high-quality images representing your work (Please make sure to using the following naming convention for your file name LastName_FirstName_Titleof Work_Medium.jpg)
● Size/dimensions/medium of your work
● Artist bio/statement/CV
● Website and/or social media handles
● Confirmation that you or a representative will be present at the Arts Center the entire time you are selected to exhibit.
Next Steps
Applications will be reviewed and acceptance notifications sent on November 4.
Selected creatives/artists must confirm participation by November 11 and commit to staffing their display throughout the Preview Sale and 1978 Collection Open Hours.
