Supernatural: The Play takes a poignant look at Black women and their hair. This dynamic show is being re-staged at the Burgdorff Theater after traveling to Los Angeles and Virginia. It is described by critics as the Vagina Monologues - but about hair. In the play seven women are forced to confront their definition of beauty in an image obsessed world, leading them on a natural hair journey to find themselves.
An Evening With Eve Ensler. The Maplewood-South Orange Book Festival is proud to host AN EVENING WITH EVE ENSLER, iconic feminist, writer, playwright and author of The Vagina Monologues, Friday, June 7th at 7:30PM at the Woodland in Maplewood.

Located just fifteen miles from New York City in the creative corridor of Maplewood and South Orange, the Maplewood—South Orange (MAPSO) Book Festival brings together readers and authors in celebration of the joy and diversity of the written word. Informative author panels highlight the major artistic, social, and political issues of the day, while a vibrant and fun-filled children’s area allows the youngest readers to discover the importance and delight of books—and meet many of their favorite authors!
The festival kicks off with keynote speaker Eve Ensler on Friday, June 7th. The majority of the festival will take place during the day on June 8th, and will include authors Wendy Mass, Ibi Zoboi, and Dan Gutman. A full schedule for the weekend will be announced soon.
Moore will be speaking on and signing purchased copies of his memoir NO ASHES IN THE FIRE, a New York Times Notable Book of 2018 and cited by the New York Times Book Review as an Editor's Choice. A celebration of radical black love, this memoir tells Moore's life story, not just as a window into his own experiences, but as a testament to the lives of the black queer, transgender, and gender non-conforming individuals who have come before him. Moore reveals not just the pain of growing up as a gay black man but also the supreme joy that comes from finding your calling and embracing your true self. This event is free and open to the public, with no advance registration required.
LGBTQ Families work it! Carl Ellis Photography and Photo Booth Studios are offering a Family Photo special for LGBTQ families throughout June! Make an appointment and come prepared. I'll pose you and photograph you for about 15 minutes. I call this my supermini session. Afterward, I'll send you a link of about 8-10 images to choose your best. No worries if we didn't notice the crumbs in your beard or the chocolate stain on your daughters dress. I'll retouch it out! As well as any other faux pas. We keep this session simple. A plain white wall in my studio works best, but we can also step outside for some color. You'll receive the session and a 5x7 print for $30. If that's not enough for you, choose a larger package and enjoy a 25% discount! I'm holding June 22nd as Family Day. Walk-ins are welcome! For all other dates, please book your appointment right from my website. Happy Pride from my family to yours!
