Maplewood Division of Arts & Culture invites amateur and professional photographers of all ages to submit photographs of Maplewood and its residents. The Town is looking for high resolution digital photos that celebrate life in Maplewood and things that make our community special. Images may include nature scenes, streetscapes, landscapes, wildlife, pets, events, facilities, sports and people living, working, and playing in town.

Winning entries will be exhibited on 1978 Arts Center, as well as
on the Division of Arts & Culture website, and featured in social media accounts.

The Township of Maplewood is thrilled to announce TESSA ELLE GOLDSTEIN (11 years old) as the
1st Prize Winner of the 2020 Maplewood Photo Contest.

HOW TO ENTER

  • CLICK HERE for electronic submissions

  • You can also fill out an application (PDF) and email with your photo submissions to dac@twp.maplewood.nj.us

  • An entry form is required for each photo (i.e. – two photos entries require two entry forms).

  • There is a limit of three (3) photo submissions per person.

  • If you chose email, please email your image (s) to dac@twp.maplewood.nj.us, one at a time, DO NOT send links to drobox, drives or any other storage service.

  • Entries must be received by 4:00pm on Monday November 2, 2020 via email, or online form with one upload per form.

  • There is no cost to enter

  • Submission materials will not be returned to entrants.

  • Winners will be announced December 2020

  • There will be ONE First prize overall winner, ONE Second place winner, and ONE Third place winner, as well as multiple winners of different categories including but not limited to topics, and level of expertise. 

  • Maplewood Township – Division of Arts & Culture reserves the right to adjust any deadline (s) due to causes beyond its control.


RULES

  1. Photographs must have been taken within the city limits of Maplewood, NJ

  2. Each participant may enter up to three photographs.

  3. All entries must be submitted in a digital format (.jpg or .tiff).

  4. Photos may be submitted in color or in black and white.

  5. All photos must be original work, taken by the entrants. No third party may own or control any materials the photo contains, and the photo must not infringe upon the trademark, copyright, moral rights, intellectual rights, or rights of privacy of any entity or person.

  6. Any photos that include identifiable people require signed photo release forms from subjects. If you choose to include people in your submission, you are responsible for obtaining the necessary release from the individuals depicted and must be able to provide copies of those releasee to the town upon request.

  7. Contestants must be at least 11 years of age.  Minors must have a parent or guardian enter photos on their behalf.

  8. Photographs must not have been previously published. Photographs originally posted to Instagram may be submitted.

  9. Entries must be suitable for display on a public website. DAC reserves the right to disqualify any entry that is deemed inappropriate or does not conform to stated contest rules.

  10. Please use the following format when naming your file: Lastname-Titleofartwork.jpg

  11. Except as otherwise disclosed in writing to town, the PHOTO is unique and original and does not infringe upon any copyright or patent.

  12. All entered photographs may be used as content, with a photo credit, on the town’s website or in other non-commercial ways to promote Maplewood. The photographer retains the copyright to his or her work.

  13. The Township of Maplewood reserves the right to resize and/or crop the image for optimal viewing.

  14.  In submitting an entry, photographers agree to their name appearing on website and promotional pieces. Alternatively, the photographer may authorize the use of the image with no attribution or may request anonymity.

  15.  Images will be chosen based on originality, technical excellence, composition, and overall impact and artistic merit.

  16. DAC, in its sole and absolute discretion, shall determine the finalists, and all decisions made by the township are final.

  17. Contestant authorizes public display as well as reproduction on town items, such as print ads, postcards, posters, brochures, applications, video, television programs and the town’s website. In addition, the town will include CONTESTANT'S name somewhere on the document or website where the photo is used.

  18. All photographs should be at least 300 dpi or higher.  As stated above, the Township may use submitted photographs with a photo credit in publications and on township websites. The higher the resolution you provide, the more likely your photograph will be used.

  19. Photographs will be disqualified if they were taken in a way that violates the township code or if they depict activities that are illegal, dangerous, or discouraged in Maplewood (for instance, illegal drone photos or images of dogs off leash in a public place).

  20. Entries without all of the necessary details will not be considered for publication, and will be disqualified from the contest.

  21. Entries will not be accepted unless submitted via the official contest channel. Entries not submitted through the proper channel will be deleted.

  22. Violators will be removed from the contest, stripped of any prize(s), and banned from entering future contests.

  23. By entering this contest, you agree to comply with the above rules.
