MAPSO Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month 2021

HHM Web.png

Hispanic Heritage Month 2021 is underway in Maplewood and South Orange. From Latin Restaurant week and outdoor dance parties to documentary and feel good films inside and out, this month promises to be a feast for the senses.

South Orange Village President Sheena Collum describes the festivities as, “a perfect blend of music, dance, entertainment and education as we enjoy and honor the influence and achievements of Hispanic and LatinX Americans, alongside the diverse culture and rich history they bring to the United States.”

Grupo Warachando, and DJ Jimmy will have everyone up on their feet dancing in the street and under the stars. Maplewood and South Orange Libraries as well as [words] Bookstore inspire and inform with book selections from LatinX authors and Hispanic Heritage.

Mayor Frank McGehee reminds us that, “Latin Heritage month is not just for one part of our community but our entire community. It is an opportunity for all of us to embrace a culture that has enriched our lives. From The Frida Kahlo Documentary screening at The Woodland to book recommendations including Carrie Gibson’s, El Norte Please, come out to learn and enjoy!”

SOMA Cross Cultural Works will provide the perfect opportunity for the whole family to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with HOLA FEST NJ 2021, October 9, 2021. Observe poetry and performances from Mexico, Brazil, Spain and Colombia. From flamenco, mariachis, samba and salsa dancing to crafts and Latin food, there is certainly something to appeal to everyone.
